My forthcoming Sasha Jackson Mystery (Frisky Business) is set against the world of adult entertainment. (Yeah, I know... sex stuff, again...) When I began writing it, it was both fun and challenging to come up with "screen names" for the characters. The naughtier sounding names were generally funnier, but the subject matter is decidedly NOT funny, and some of the names I came up with went in the caricature direction. Choosing the character names ended up being much more difficult than I had anticipated (and I changed and revised and rejected and reinstated about a thousand times!)
You may think that I could get names/ideas for names by doing a Google search. Yeah, I tried that, and I pretty much had to bleach my laptop afterwards. (I suggest you skip that step if you're looking for titillating character names.)
You may have heard of the parlour game "What's Your Porn Star Name?" in which your XXX name is determined by the name of your first pet and the name of the street you grew up on. In my case, my porn star name would be Bella Loyola (I actually kind of like that!) Variations on the game include using your middle name, your mother's maiden name, etc. etc. etc.
(An alternative to the Porn Name game is "What's Your Blues Name?" in which you choose an affliction, a fruit, and a US president, hence: Blind Melon Jefferson... or Constipated Loganberry Taft... maybe not...)
So: After much thought, here are a few of the names I used (and they may change again and again before the book comes out.)
FEMALE
Trinity Splitz
Nicki Spumoni
Misty Chambers
Kitty Vixen
Athena Starr
Crystal Frost
Tatiana Mounds
MALE
Rory Swaine
Brad Fist
Lance LeMans
Dixon Cash
(The names for the guys were much harder to come up with than the names for the girls!)
How about you?
What would your porn star name be?
From one of the Bonds, a female's name I always thought would hang better on a man, Plenty O'Toole.
ReplyDeleteOMG Kevin! Love that one ;-)
ReplyDeletePeter Birchmount. That does sound a tad porny...
